How do I transfer my domain name to Protec?

You will be given full instructions on how to go about this when you receive your account details. You can also find the information in our knowledge base in the domain name category: http://www.protecsupport.com/kbase/

Will I see any downtime if I get my domain transferred?

No, you will not see any downtime. Domain transfers usually take a couple of days to complete due to the need for a global refresh. While some end users may be visiting your site at its new location, others may still be receiving old information and are being routed to your previous host. During this time, it is best to keep the account with your old hosting provider until the domain has been properly transferred and is pointing to Protec's servers.

I don't understand the domain name registration or transfer process, what should I do?

Contact us via email or telephone us, we are more than happy to explain any technical issues and help you get your site up and running. All proceses are also documented in our knowledge base.

How long does it take from ordering for my account to be setup?

Accounts are usually setup within an hour but we have a maximum setup time of 24 hours. We do not offer instant activation as we check all new accounts to prevent fraudulent orders from being processed.

All of the web hosting plans I see offer a certain amount of data transfer or bandwidth. What is data transfer?

Data transfer, sometimes called "bandwidth", refers to the amount of data that is used when visitors view your website. When visitors browse your website, they are technically requesting and retrieving files from the server. If you have a web page that consists of an HTML file and an image file that are 10kb each, then the amount of data transfer that is used when a single visitor views that web page is 20kb.

I have come across a few web hosting companies offering "unlimited bandwidth". How is that possible?

The term Unlimited Bandwidth is an advertising gimmick, aimed at those with little or no experience with web hosting. Datacenters do not offer unlimited bandwidth to their customers. By that same token, hosts cannot offer realistic unlimited bandwidth offers to you.

Will email space count from the main space allocated with my account?

Yes, the space allocations you see on our services are for email and web space combined.

Do you charge for installing 3rd Party COMs?

It depends upon the nature of the component and how many you require. They also need to be approved by us as being stable and secure before we install them..

Do you have any hidden fees?

No, the only extra fees are if you use more than your allocated bandwidth or disk space or if you order any extra features not included with your plan. Those prices are listed on the hosting pages.

What’s your bandwidth to the Internet?

We use 100Mbps internal network connections to dual 155Mbps upstream providers. The self-healing network eliminates a single point of failure. In addition to the backbone, a backup transit from multiple locations ensures that data arrives via the shortest possible route. The backup transit and the many international peers allows the network to maintain the shortest routes for sending data all over the world.

How secure is the data center?

The facility was designed from the ground up to serve data housing needs. Raised floors, individually locked cabinets, advanced climate control, back-up power, custom designed video surveillance of every cabinet, and onsite security measures assure that servers are safe while running optimally. The Data Center is monitored and guarded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was engineered with HVAC environmental systems, digital surveillance, stringent security and conditioned uninterruptible power.

How do I pay for my services?

All services are paid for on a prepay basis to a specified schedule.

Credit/Debit cards:
All card payments are taken through Worldpay for high level security. If payment is not successfully made then it will be retried 3 times over 3 days, if still not successful we will attempt to make contact with the customer. If this is unsuccessful the service/s may be terminated at the discretion of Protec's company management.

Example:
If you purchase a Web Pro hosting plan you are given the option to pay monthly. This means your card will be debited on the same date each month for the specified amount. This will be ongoing unless you cancel the account by contacting us to request that and receive a cancellation confirmation by email.
Domain names are the only exception in that they are not automatically renewed. Domain name renewal email
s are sent out 60, 30, 15, 5 and 0 days before the domains expiration date and a link is provided that enables you to make a positive renewal for the domain name.

Cheques:
Cheque payments are accepted, monthly payments are not accepted by cheque. A cheque must have cleared before any services are setup.
